Collection: Marshall Islands

The Republic of the Marshall Islands is an island group slightly west of the International Date Line and just north of the equator in the Pacific Ocean near Kiribati. It is geographically part the greater Micronesia archipelago. In 2021 the country claimed a population of 42,418 people living on five islands and 29 coral atolls out of the 1156 islands and islets that make up the chain. The largest settlement in the country is Mauro the nation's capital. 

The Marshall Islands was previously a German Protectorate and under this protection a set of stamps were issue. After World War II the island chain became a US Possession but was granted independence in 1979.  The country is the home to the infamous Bikini Atoll where the United States tested its first nuclear Hydrogen Bomb.
