Flag of Bhutan

Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, Bhutan is renowned not only for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage but also for its groundbreaking contributions to the world of stamp design. Since issuing its first stamps in 1962, Bhutan has consistently pushed the boundaries of philatelic innovation. Notably, in 1967, Bhutan released the world's first 3D postage stamps using lenticular printing, depicting themes like space exploration. The country's inventive spirit continued with the 1973 introduction of "Talking Stamps"—miniature vinyl records playable on a turntable, featuring Bhutanese folk songs and historical narratives. Further innovations include stamps printed on silk and steel foil, scented stamps, and even CD-ROM stamps containing multimedia content about the nation.
