Collection: New Guinea
This collection showcases New Guinea's philatelic journey during the reigns of King George V and King George VI. Initially, Australian stamps featuring King George V were overprinted with "N.W. PACIFIC ISLANDS" for use in the territory. In 1925, New Guinea issued its own stamps depicting native huts, followed by the 1931 "Bird of Paradise" series. Royal milestones were commemorated with special issues: in 1935, stamps marked King George V's Silver Jubilee, and in 1937, a set featuring King George VI's profile celebrated his coronation. These stamps reflect the colony's ties to the British monarchy and its evolving identity under Australian administration.
