Collection: Bank Note Issues

The Bank Notes issues of 1870-1882 replace the smaller and poorly gummed series of 1869. The stamps of this issue were printed by three different companies, the National Bank Note Company (1870-1871), the Continental Bank Note Company (1873-1879) and the American Bank Note Company (1879-1882). The larger stamps featured the likeness of prominent deceased Americans and were roughly 50% larger than the previous issue.
