Finland is a country of about 5.6 million people located in northern Europe between Russia on the east, Sweden on the west and Estonia across the Gulf of Bothnia to the south. This Scandinavian country was formerly a Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire from 1809 to 1917 when it declared independence. The first Finnish postage stamp issued in 1856.
